RAVI ZACHARIAS: SEXUAL DEVIANT, LIAR AND FALSE TEACHER

Report of Independent Investigation into Sexual Misconduct of Ravi Zacharias - February 9, 2021
Lynsey M. Barron, Esq. William P. Eiselstein, Esq.  Miller & Martin PLLC
Microsoft Word - 19676965_3

The above report contains the various unsavoury details of Zacharias sexual misconduct over a number of years with some gaps that the investigators were unable to piece together.

“We believe not only the women who made their allegations public but also additional women who had not previously made public allegations against Ravi but whose identities and stories were uncovered during the investigation. Tragically, witnesses described encounters including sexting, unwanted touching, spiritual abuse, and rape.”

The report demonstrates how very difficult it is to hold supposed "Christian" leaders to account when they practice nepotism and hold unassailable positions of power within their organizations. Zacharias described his critics as “nasty people” and “lunatics” who were engaging in "satanic-type slander and falsehood.” Those who expressed doubts within the RZIM camp were ignored, marginalized and accused of disloyalty. There is little one can do against evil autocratic leaders, apart from pray of course. Where peoples jobs are concerned, they are far more likely to accept the status quo rather than take a course of action that will leave them disadvantaged or unemployed. For Jesus' disciples, "taking up their cross" meant rejection, persecution, and ultimately death. (Luke 14:28). Apart from his disgusting sexual deviations, there were several red flags concerning the legitimacy of this man over the years. It seems to me that RZIM employees were already doctrinally compromised long before these revelations came to light.

Zacharias was an Anglican Indian-born Canadian-American apologist and a supposed defender of evangelical Protestantism. He held celebrity status within certain circles and was highly respected. He spoke at Christian events and conferences and apparently travelled to his engagements in a chauffer driven limousine. He also ran a weekly radio apologetics broadcast “Let My People Think”. {1} Zacharias was extremely wealthy having a net worth in 2021 of $8 million. {2} In reality Zacharias was a pitiful individual whose profession of faith was an utter sham.

In 2009 Zacharias signed the Manhattan Declaration which is an ecumenical document. (2 Corinthians 6:14). {3}
Zacharias was a speaker at Together 2016, an ecumenical event held at the National Mall in Washington DC. (4)
Zacharias had a regular spot on TBN and endorsed known heretics Joyce Meyer, Rick Warren and Brian Houston/Hillsong.

In 2004 Zacharias and Richard Mouw addressed a large congregation of Evangelicals and Mormons at the Salt Lake City Mormon Tabernacle in Utah for an "Evening of Friendship". {4} Zacharias avoided preaching the gospel at this event and stated:

“And so, what brings us together? As has already been said, yes we have our theological differences, but I think it’s commendable that we find a common cause in trying to create a good moral soil in this culture and in this time.”

Mormon Tabernacle Utah 2004
Zacharias addressed the Mormon Temple at Utah for a second time in 2014 in partnership with Standing Together and called for evangelicals and Mormons to stand together to save America from "lost morality."  {5} Unity between bible believing Christians and Mormons with their "false gospel" and "false christ" is unacceptable. (2 Corinthians 11:4). For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. (1 Corinthians 2:2).

In 2017 Zacharias publicly apologized for making false claims about his credentials at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. {6}

Warren Throckmorton: "In a 2012 speech before the C.S. Lewis Institute, Christian apologist Ravi Zacharias referred to himself as a “professor at Oxford” after saying he had studied at Cambridge. Watch (the complete speech is here. The clip is at 52:41)." {7}

For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it. (Titus 1:7-9 cf. 1 Timothy 1:8-10).

  1. This is another example of a dilemma I find myself in when these things are uncovered. Because while I totally accept the reports and findings, I have also been blessed by some of the things he said. And the person with whom RZ set up the massage parlours near his office was led to Christ (he said) by RZ. I suppose God can use a fraud as much as He can use any of the rest of us.
    I did once attend a church where it turned out the minister was involved in drug smuggling! The last time I spoke to him he was quite nasty. Was he a true Christian? Only God knows. Same with RZ.
    I came across a site several years ago called something like ravitruth.com, and I persuaded myself that the author was just vindictive and making up stuff. While also wondering why he/she did so... Was he a fraud from the start, like Copeland, DuPlessis, etc? That’s up to God to know. He wasn’t the first and he won’t be the last, sadly. Were his family deceived? I feel sorry for those who were genuinely deceived.
    In cases like this I always think of Gal 6:1 - when someone is exposed in this way, let’s examine ourselves before God in the light of His Word to ensure that we are not being similarly deceived. And if we believe not, then let us humbly give thanks to Almighty God, for without Him we too would be lost in the darkness.

    Many blessings.

  2. I never really did warm to Zacharias John.. He was a "gifted" speaker apparently, but he used very little of the scriptures. He was not my "cup of tea" as they say. I don't know if he had genuine faith, but I am doubtful due to his ecumenical leanings and of course his other problem.
    I feel particularly sickened since he apparently set up these massage parlours with the sole intent of using them for his sinful purposes secretly.
    I don't think that his family were aware - they must be devastated.
    We all sin of course 1 John 1:8, but habitual sin on this level is not something "we have to live with" as Zacharais put it. Many people have been damaged by this awful situation.
    God bless.

  3. I’ve just read the statement from the RZIM board, and there seem to be two omissions.
    The first is that the board members are still not identified by name. When will they stop hiding? It’s fairly clear that RZ’s wife and daughter are part of it, but who else is there?
    Secondly, although they have hired various consultants to help them through (where’s the money coming from?), they still refer to themselves as RZIM. For us in the U.K. it would be like continuing to refer to the Harold Shipman Care Home (that’s just an example - there’s no such thing).
    And as you and other people have said, Treena, there should be questions about the validity of ‘Christian apologetics’. ‘The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword.’ Heb 4:12. Do we need anything else?

    1. John,
      It would appear that the apostle Paul agrees with your (correct) attitude towards Christian apologetics:
      For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect - 1 Cor 1/17. and:
      And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. 1 Cor 2/4

    2. You have identified the problem precisely in the scriptures Jack. I did not listen to much of Zacharias, but what I did hear did nothing for me. He was no doubt a polished speaker.. Moses and Paul were poor speakers and yet God used them mightily. 2 Corinthians 11:6.
      God bless.

  4. Thank you John.. They ought to shut RZIM down straight away in my view.
    God bless.

  5. The Julie Roys site today has published a letter from Ruth Malhotra, PR manager at RZIM. Just when you think things have got pretty bad, this comes along and shows how comprehensively rotten the entire organisation is. Read it and weep at the lies,deception and abuse in God’s name.
    And I totally agree with you, Treena - the whole ghastly organisation must be closed immediately.

  6. I watched Mike Winger's video yesterday John. He went through the entire report more or less piecemeal. Although he was obviously distressed, he managed to bring some wisdom into the situation and I agree with his conclusions. The clips of Lori Anne are heartbreaking! One thing he omitted was Zacharias deviation from the true gospel. I would not even consider employment with an ecumenical organization posing as "Christian". The whole situation is very distressing indeed.

  7. There are some very angry comments from
    Nathan Zacharias quoted on the Protestia website (protestia.com). Not surprisingly, he finds it very hard to accept the findings of the report, and the response of the RZIM board. We do need to pray for the remaining family, especially if there are yet more revelations.
    There are some interesting articles and videos around, although some of them show what I call the Savile Syndrome - as soon as a wrongdoer dies, everyone says they knew he was a wrongdoer, but they just didn’t say so while he was alive...

  8. I read Nathan Zacharias comments earlier this afternoon John. I agree - we do need to pray for the family and also for the victims. The evidence against RZ is overwhelming, but I can understand that his son is having problems accepting the situation. I also read the very long letter from Ruth Malhotra on Tuesday. There will be a lot more fall out I think.
    God bless.

  9. YouTube is awash with pundits telling us about the lessons we should learn from the RZ scandal (I must say that Mike Winger’s video is by far the best, and the only one I would recommend).
    Will anyone learn anything from this? Of course not. Sadly but inevitably, there are other Ravi Zachariases out there who will be exposed. But it seems that outright heretics such as Copeland, Dollar, DuPlessis, etc, can still get away with spiritual and financial abuse in plain sight. Without repentance, they will find that it is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the Living God.

    1. I think there will be further revelations about RZ John.
      As you say, there are plenty more heretics and abusers out there.
      Proverbs 9:10.
      God bless.
