CHUCK MISSLER - COPYIST ! BY DAVE MACPHERSON

Many these days are abandoning the pretribulation rapture view, and the June, 1995 article by Chuck Missler (”Byzantine Text Discovery: Ephraem the Syrian”) reveals why there is such a mutiny!
First of all, the authoritative scholar that Missler cited, Dr. Paul Alexander, referred only to “Pseudo-Ephraem” and not to Ephraem the Syrian. (If an unsigned ancient manuscript resembles the real Ephraem but there is a question of authorship, they assign it to “Pseudo-Ephraem” - the word “pseudo” meaning “possibly.”
For some groundless reason, Grant Jeffrey, the one who reportedly found the “discovery,” changed Dr. Alexander’s terminology and wrongfully referred only to "Ephraem the Syrian"! For more info on Jeffrey, Google “Wily Jeffrey.”)
And Missler’s scholarship is also questionable. According to the Los Angeles Times (July 30, 1992), about one-fourth of Missler’s 1992 book “The Magog Factor” (which he co-authored with Hal Lindsey) was a daring plagiarism of Dr. Edwin Yamauchi’s 1982 book “Foes from the Northern Frontier”!
Four months later Yamauchi’s publisher revealed that both Lindsey and Missler had promised to stop all publishing of their book. But in 1995 they were found publishing “The Magog Invasion” (which was either a revision or a replacement of “The Magog Factor”) - which had a substantial amount of the same plagiarism! (My 1998 book “The Three R’s” has complete documentation on this and other pretrib scandals.)
After listing “1820″ as the reported date of the birth of pretrib (he should have said “1830″), Missler sees a pretrib rapture in that Medieval writer’s phrase “taken to the Lord” and, since he evidently favors rewriting others instead of researching, is unaware that Dr. Alexander explained that this phrase really means “participate at least in some measure in beatitude” - which has reference only to doing acts of virtue on earth and not being raptured away from earth!
Alexander included two summaries of Pseudo-Ephraem's end-time events in chronological order - both showing only one final second coming taught by him (and not any prior coming) which would follow the time of Antichrist! (Readers can Google my article “Deceiving and Being Deceived” to see how groundless the Pseudo-Ephraem claim is and to learn how desperate pretribs are to find any pre-1830 evidence for their escapist view. Dr. Robert Gundry of Westmont College has also demolished the Pseudo-Ephraem claim in his 1997 book “First the Antichrist.”)
Since Missler also leans on Thomas Ice, readers can evaluate Ice’s qualifications by Googling "Walvoord Melts Ice," "Pretrib Rapture Pride," “Thomas Ice (Bloopers),” “Be Careful in Polemics - Peripatetic Learning," and (since Ice says he's working on a UOW doctorate) "Bogus degree scandal prompts calls to wind up University of Wales." For further light on the 187-year-old pretribulation theory, Google or Yahoo “Pretrib Rapture Stealth” and "Evangelicals Use Occult Deception."
Since some pretrib rapture money-changers (including those who are Misslerized) are now drooling and even foaming over the "huge possibility" of a pretrib rapture blast-off this coming September, readers entrapped by such dispensational drivel can easily become hugely enlightened by reading "Ready for Rapture Astrology?" which can be found on the pace-setting blog "Wolves in Sheep's Clothing" hosted by Biblical authority Treena Gisborn.
Finally - why on earth would Chuck Missler, who reportedly has the brains of a rocket scientist, want to be taken up with the concept of an any-moment pretrib rapture? The answer may well be that there’s more money in elevating a rapture than in launching a rocket!

  1. I am disgusted with Chuck Missler. He is "supposedly" very gifted.. to have misused those gifts is a very weighty thing.

"Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap." (Galatians 6:7).

    God bless.

  2. I can well understand your sentiments-I agree!

I was de-Misslerized some 5-6 years ago. At one time I think I had every tape, CD and video he had ever produced! I certainly W-A-S glued to his teachings and at one point I would hang onto his every word!
After discovering the truth (I praise God in Christ!), rather than put this material back into the market place I trashed it all. Missler is a very good teacher, but the only problem is there is much error being taught alongside the truth. I came to faith relatively late in life and it really was a gargantuan struggle to unlearn the manifold errors that came with Dispensational theology as promulgated by Missler and his cohorts. Dispensationalism literally weaves a virulent thread throughout every part of the Gospel of truth.

Some would think that we are being uncharitable and unnecessarily dogmatic about the timing of the rapture so-called (it IS the Second Advent-PERIOD!!!), but without dogmatism we wouldn't know truth from error. Thank God for Luther's dogmatism, otherwise we would still be shackled by popery! Dogmatism has become a taboo word of late-what an absolute tragedy? I have never met Luther, or Calvin (obviously!) but somehow I believe I KNOW what these great reformers and the rest would have to say about a second coming BEFORE the Second Coming!

A better name for the mythical pre-trib rapture would be the 'pseudo rapture'? But upon reflection, perhaps not, as even this word might grant it too much support!
We do have to wonder if it is ££££££ ($$$$$) that influences these 'teachers', don't we?

    God bless.

  3. Talking about dogmatism re the Second Coming of the Lord, there are some pre-trib teachers who really are very undogmatic about what they believe! Paul Wilkinson, I believe is on record as calling post-trib believers/teachers "heretics"! (please correct me if I am wrong). Yet some of his brethren in the PWMI are very undecided and shaky!

Take for example, Tony Pearce (current joint vice president of PWMI) from London's Bridge Lane Christian Fellowship/Light For The Last Days. On his LFTLD's website under the heading "What happens to Christians after death and after the rapture" under subsection 5; "Two stages of the coming of the Lord", he writes:

"If we take the pre-tribulation view, we need to ready for the Lord to come at any time now. If we take the post-tribulation view we need to be ready for the events of the tribulation, which include world wars, persecution of believers and the rule of the Antichrist. I take the pre-tribulation view, although I acknowledge that those who take the alternative views have valid reasons for their position. Either way we need to be ready to meet the Lord."

Does he know the truth, but can't quite bring himself to come out with it?
Just as well Luther didn't say "I have a VIEW"? No! he believed, and KNEW that God said it!!!

    God bless.

  4. I believe you are right Colin.. Paul Wilkinson did say that post-trib believers/teachers are heretics! I will look at Tony Pearce's post about this. I think some teachers are actually very cowardly.. they do not want to risk being reviled by the likes of Paul Wilkinson, Thomas Ice etc. The cost of preaching the truth is too much for them! This is a gospel issue, and not secondary as some would have it. The Lord will hold them to account! (James 3:1).

“Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! (Luke 6:22)

The scriptures well and truly debunk pre-trib and imminence, but we should also be wary of those who are not pre-trib but make up their own eschatalogical doctrines e.g. Jacob Prasch Intra-Seal!

I am working my way through the AOG pre-trib statement and should be posting soon.

    God bless.

  5. Reading between the lines, in a convoluted way Tony Pearce is effectively saying; "If plan A doesn't work we must quickly resort to plan B!"
But,by then, the deception would have set in. Yes indeed, "it is a gospel issue".

I see absolutely NO "valid reason" whatsoever for the unbiblical pre-trib rapture, perhaps Mr Pearce would like to ask Paul Wilkinson to re-write subsection 5 for him, for is not the PWMI's doctrinal frontispiece the 'glorious' pre-trib rapture???

BTW Tommy Ice has preached at Bridge Lane, along with many other pre-trib big hitters.
    God bless.

  6. I have read the piece you refer to Colin.

What a choice --- the LORD JESUS CHRIST or the PWMI
The pre-trib rapture doctrine WILL cause many to fall away (Matthew 24:10).
Tony Pearce is foolish to play both sides.. not a good idea! (Proverbs 14:7)
    God bless.

  7. I think there is a lot of dirt thrown around because people don't comply to a teacher's point of view. Chuck Missler and Jacob Prasch are both good teachers and have their view on things. I'm not quite sure where I stand but if we keep our eyes on Christ's return we will purify ourselves. Calling someone elses teaching deception is a bit arrogant I think and makes it a them and us scenario instead of being able to listen to teaching from the bible and discussing it openly without labelling someone as in deception because we don't agree with everything. Nobody has got it right completely yet. When we get the witness of the Spirit to the word we know we are getting somewhere.
